4:30-5:00 - Mobile Web Security: A Moving Target

The day when everyone has a PC in their pocket has arrived and developers are rushing to create mobile applications to meet demand. These engineers are caught between the expectations of their users and the unique technical challenges of building applications for the mobile platform. Crippled mobile browsers, claustrophobic interfaces, limited memory and CPU, multiple security models, and an always on network create a daunting security challenge. Knowing the risks and how to respond to them is the only hope for creating a secure experience for your mobile users.

In this talk we will discuss the common security mistakes made by developers of mobile web applications, and how common web vulnerabilities and protections are changed in the mobile web paradigm.  We will cover authentication issues, fraud detection and prevention, and the specific security concerns raised by mobile browser technologies.  The session will conclude with a comparison of the security properties of thick and thin mobile applications, and a discussion of how security needs should guide the choices of organizations looking to support mobile users.
